By The Tracks

In the distance
a single eye,
bearing fast
towards where we lie.

Piercing blast
that drowns all things,
and cuts me to the bone
it seems.

A charging beast
of steel with fuel,
it lurches onward
like a burdened mule.

Now rushing past
on shrieking rails,
a driving storm
to which all else pales.

Pushing, Pumping, At the start
Spinning, Grinning, It’s an art
Churning, Burning, Neon dart
Coasting, Boasting, It’s all part

Round the corner
Past the bend
Up the hill
With the wind

Now slowly moving
Now charging past
Now standing up
All moving fast

Walking The Night

Walking down the city street
and all the lights are on
The people are at home to eat
while day is almost gone

Silence fills where noise once ruled
the cars are parked and cold
The air itself has long since cooled
and night is growing bold

Sand all around
It lies on the ground
Whipped by the wind
No one know where it’s been
It gets in my hair, and my mouth, and my shoes.

When the sun heats the sand it’s hot on my feet
Sand can be cool, but it’s not cool to eat
A handful of sand will pour right through my fingers,
